Holiday Overview

Famous for its breathtakingly beautiful Norwegian Fjords, world-class traditional Norwegian seafood, Viking history and peaceful, picture-perfect port towns, Norway is a wonderful holiday destination. Somehow, it’s even better when explored aboard one of P&O’s flagship Norway cruise liners, the Iona. Equipped with fully accessible cabins, a swimming pool, theatre, four-screen cinema and striking, glass-roofed SkyDome, it’s pure luxury. On your tour, you’ll visit Stavanger, with its historic wooden city centre, as well as Alesund, with its Art Nouveau architecture and striking natural landscapes.

You’ll stop off at Olden and experience the unforgettable beauty of millions of years of glacial erosion as we cruise through Innvikifjorden, Nordfjord and the surrounding waterways. Finally, we’ll arrive in Haugesund - historic homeland of the Viking raiders who swept across Europe between the 8th and 11th centuries.

This trip highlights the beauty of Norway's southern fjords and gives you a peek at the stunning nature that stretches to the Arctic Circle, where the scenery shifts to the untouched wilds of the far north. It's a sneak peek at Norway's varied landscapes, from its mild shores to the brink of the Arctic.

As with all Limitless holidays, you’ll receive help and assistance from the Limitless care team throughout your Norwegian Fjords cruise, ensuring you’re able to make the most of your time. Whether you want a hand when checking-in or transferring to and from our start location, we’ll be there by your side. We’re even offering a dedicated “potter around the port” service exclusively for Limitless guests, so that you’re better able to enjoy the stops in Stavanger, Alesund, Olden and Haugesund. Your tour includes your stay in your full-board, accessible cabin aboard the Iona.

If you would like more information about accessibility aboard the Iona, we recommend getting in touch with one of the Limitless Travel Advisors on 0800 711 7232.

Next, it’s on to Alesund - a maritime town that’s home to the country’s biggest cod-fishing fleet and a wealth of striking architecture. After a devastating fire gutted much of the town at the start of the 20th Century, Alesund was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style and has remained one of Norway’s most popular holiday destinations ever since.

It’s not just the architecture that inspires, though. Founded on a string of islands, visitors to the town enjoy breathtaking natural landscapes in every direction, particularly over the Sunmore Alps to the east.

FAQ's

What is the best time of year to cruise the Norwegian Fjords?

For a truly unforgettable experience, plan your cruise through the Norwegian Fjords during the summer months of late May to early September.

This time frame offers pleasant weather, extended daylight hours, and the opportunity to behold the breathtaking natural beauty of the fjords at its best.

However, it's worth noting that the notion of the "best" time for a Norwegian Fjords cruise is subjective, as some travellers prefer the tranquillity and serenity of the quieter shoulder seasons in May and September when the crowds have thinned.

Will I see the Northern Lights on a Fjords cruise?

On a Norway cruise through the Norwegian Fjords, you might have the chance to see the mesmerising Northern Lights, though their appearance can't be promised.

The best chance to experience this breathtaking spectacle is during the winter months, from late September to early April, when nights are the longest and the skies darkest.

However, remember that sightings of the Northern Lights depend on solar activity and weather conditions, making their visibility unpredictable.

Are cruises good for people with limited ability?

Cruises are a fantastic option for individuals with limited mobility. Many cruise lines provide accessible cruises designed with specially equipped cabins, public spaces, and facilities.

These accommodations include features like ramps, wider doorways, and accessible bathrooms. Additionally, the cruise staff undergo specialised training to ensure they are skilled in assisting passengers with disabilities. Learn more about accessible cruises here.
