Day 5 Narvik, Norway

Port Visit

Situated at the head of the gorgeous Ototfjord, Narvik is surrounded by majestic mountains, deep blue fjords and pristine arctic countryside. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, it is a historically important ice-free port and was also the site of a well-known World War II naval battle.

Today, one of the town’s main attractions is the wheelchair-accessible Narvikfjellet cable car, which ascends around 660 metres to the top of the local ski resort and the Fjellkaféen 656 mountain restaurant. Here, you can grab a bite to eat or a warming drink and enjoy the unparalleled views of the fjords below. Alternatively, the Museum Nord offers a fascinating insight into the town's history.

Day 6 Narvik, Norway
Narvik Norway Cable car
Port Visit

Having anchored in Narvik overnight, you have a second morning to enjoy this relaxed Norwegian town. As always, you can choose to head ashore or stay aboard the ship and enjoy the world-class amenities. Whether that means indulging in a lavish breakfast while admiring the fjord’s remarkable natural beauty or pampering yourself in the ship’s spa is entirely up to you.

If you do head ashore, the Narvik War Museum houses excellent exhibits detailing the pivotal role the town played in WWII and the fearsome naval and mountain battles that unfolded over 62 remarkable days in 1940. It’s certainly a great stop for history aficionados. Of course, you could also opt to cosy up in a traditional café with a hot beverage and enjoy the spectacular mountainous backdrop.

Day 7 Tromsø, Norway
Cruise customer with a Troll, Norway
Port Visit

Though it’s a fair way north of the Arctic Circle, Tromsø boasts a remarkably mild climate for its latitude. While ice-free waters and westerly winds mean this vibrant city (it has the most bars per capita in all of Norway) may be a little warmer than usual, there’s still plenty of snow!

Tromsø is also home to several excellent accessible attractions, including the local Troll Museum. Trolls play a crucial role in Norwegian folklore and legend and this brilliant museum explains why while also introducing visitors to many of its most famous troll-related tales. Alternatively, the Polar Museum details the expeditions, adventures and everyday lives of Arctic explorers from the 17th century to the modern day.

Day 8 Tromsø, Norway

Port Visit

With a second day to explore Tromsø before the ship resumes its exploration of the mighty Norwegian fjords, it’s up to you whether you head ashore or take it easy and make the most of the onboard entertainment and leisure facilities.

If you do head into Tromsø, the Polaria Arctic Experience Centre boasts a fantastic arctic aquarium. Designed to help visitors learn about how animals, fish, plants, and people live side-by-side in the Arctic, it’s also home to bearded seals and other unique wildlife. If you just want to get a feel for the town and enjoy the local cafes, bars and restaurants, the Storgatta central shopping street is where you’ll find all the action. Finally, excursions to the Tromsø cable car are also possible, though the gondolas aren’t accessible for all travellers.

Day 9 At Sea

Onboard Activities & Classes

Cunard offers an extraordinary array of onboard activities and classes for those passengers looking to expand their horizons and try something new. These include painting or photography workshops designed for all levels and abilities, as well as mixology classes for anyone who fancies trying their hand at cocktail-making.

The Cunard Insights program brings a whole host of inspiring, informative and entertaining guest speakers to the Queen Elizabeth. Whether you’re attending a talk from a highly successful Olympic athlete, listening to a polar explorer recount expeditions in the Arctic tundra, or learning more about the origins of one of your cruise destinations from a renowned historian, Cunard Insights never fails to fascinate.

Day 10 Bergen, Norway
Bergen norway landscape image
Bergen
Port Visit

Norway’s second city, Bergen, is a remarkable port that combines breathtaking natural surroundings with a culturally rich and vibrant town centre. Nestled among seven mountains and situated at the heart of a labyrinth network of fjords, it was an influential trading port for much of its past, as reflected in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Bryggen wharf, where colourful wooden buildings line the waterfront.

The city fish market is a popular destination, as delicious seafood is guaranteed, while the Bergen Maritime Museum offers a glimpse into the city’s historic significance and is accessible throughout. The Fløyen Funicular Railway is also wheelchair accessible and takes visitors 320 metres up above the city to Fløyen. However, Limitless Travellers will need to arrange this independently.

Day 11 Stavanger, Norway
Customer and Staff in Port Norway in Viking hats
Port Visit

Land ahoy! Once a Viking stronghold, Stavanger is famed for the beautiful wooden homes that line the streets of the historic city centre. The port is a flat, 10-minute walk from the city centre and there are plenty of local restaurants and bars close by, making it a great opportunity to sample deliciously authentic Norwegian cuisine.

The city market is the place to pick up mementoes, while the imposing Stavanger Cathedral is Norway’s oldest, and the picturesque Blue Promenade is fantastic for a post-lunch stroll or roll. The wheelchair-accessible Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tours several of Stavanger’s main attractions but there are limited spaces and Limitless Travellers will need to book independently to guarantee a place.

How does Limitless assist with check in and boarding?

Having met the Limitless Team at the port, we'll accompany you to the special assistance check-in. As it's separate from regular check-in, there are no crowds or lengthy queues.

You'll then be given a boarding time. Usually, we board as a group. However, if this isn't possible and you would like the assistance, we ensure a carer accompanies you onto the ship.

We board via the accessible gangway. This ramp connects the ship to the port. If you require support or assistance, both the Limitless Team and the ship's crew will be on hand to help. There are also manual wheelchairs available to make this transfer easier.

On some ships, the accessible gangway can be a little steep. In these instances, two crew members will provide support - one in front and one behind. You'll never be rushed and your safety and comfort are always the priorities.

Remember, you don't need to pre-book any special assistance at the port! We provide this assistance as standard with all Limitless cruises.

What is Limitless Group Support & Holiday Assistance?

In addition to this, our care team will also reach out to you three months before your holiday to confirm you have everything you need to travel with complete confidence.

What are anchor ports and is Limitless responsible for port changes?

At Limitless Travel, we carefully select cruise itineraries with minimal anchor ports. Anchor ports are those destinations where port logistics mean a small boat or ‘tender’ transport is required to ferry guests to shore. In the vast majority of cases, these tenders are not accessible and some Limitless Travellers will not be able to leave the ship.

Unfortunately, port changes can happen due to any number of reasons while at sea. Limitless Travel cannot be held accountable for any such port changes.

Which side of the ship is best for fjords?

On our Norwegian fjord cruises, both sides of the ship typically guarantee spectacular views of the fjords. However, selecting the “best” side of the ship often depends on the itinerary specifics.

Generally, the starboard (right-hand) side might be slightly better if you’re cruising north and the port (left-hand) side if you’re heading south. In both instances, this is because that side of the ship will spend more time facing the coastline.

Modern cruise ships are designed to maximize visibility and the open decks and public viewing areas guarantee everyone has access to striking 360-degree vistas. On Limitless Norwegian Fjords Cruises, there are always plenty of opportunities to use these facilities.

Is the sea rough in the Norwegian fjords?

The waters in the Norwegian fjords are generally much calmer than the open sea, thanks to the fjords' narrow and sheltered characteristics. This makes Norwegian fjord cruises an excellent choice for those concerned about sea sickness.

The cruise ship will be out on the open sea when travelling to, from and between fjords. Here, rougher seas are possible but entirely dependent on the weather, conditions, and season. Modern cruise ships are well-equipped with stabilisers to counteract rougher seas and minimise the motion you feel, ensuring a comfortable onboard experience.
