A Tale of Two Cities

Home of The Beatles, a fascinating imperial history, and a wonderfully energetic waterfront, Liverpool has played a defining role in shaping modern Britain. Just 40 miles south, Chester, with its ancient Roman landmarks and medieval architecture, offers a glimpse of a more distant past.

On this five-day accessible coach tour, you’ll explore both cities – getting a feel for Liverpool’s maritime heritage, musical footprint and contemporary culture, then travelling thousands of years back in time as you discover Chester’s historic streets and spectacular cathedral. Staying in an accessible city centre hotel means you’re at the heart of the action, giving this holiday an immersive city break feel and making it well suited to guests who want to balance excursions with free time to explore at your own pace.

5-Day Accessible Itinerary

After a relaxed journey to Liverpool on our accessible transport, your first full day is dedicated to exploring Liverpool’s iconic waterfront. In doing so, we’ll visit the Museum of Liverpool and Royal Albert Docks, two of the city’s most influential cultural landmarks. Next up is a day in Chester, where you will visit the 1,000-year-old cathedral and spend the afternoon exploring the city at your own pace.

Finally, we’ll spend one more day enjoying Liverpudlian culture. Starting with a guided Beatles coach tour that takes in local landmarks associated with the group, your day also includes a one-hour cruise aboard the famous Mersey ferry and free time in the city centre.

Day 2 Museum of Liverpool & Royal Albert Docks
Royal Albert Dock Liverpool
Royal Albert Dock Liverpool

It’s impossible to conceive of Liverpool without the magnificent Mersey, so crucial the role the river has played in the city’s history and sense of identity. Today, we’ll tour several of the cultural highlights that have turned the waterfront into one of the city’s most exciting and vibrant destinations.

Following breakfast, the day begins with a visit to the Museum of Liverpool, where the city’s social, cultural and archaeological history is showcased through a range of permanent and temporary exhibitions. From Beatles memorabilia to displays celebrating the city’s strong associations with organised labour, the museum offers a fascinating insight into Liverpool’s past, present and future.

At lunchtime, we’ll head to the spectacular Royal Albert Docks, one of the city’s true success stories and a fantastic demonstration of the power of regeneration and redevelopment. Abandoned until the 1980s, the Docks are now a bustling city centrepiece and home to bars, restaurants, shops, and cultural institutions, making it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat.

In the afternoon, we’ll either head to the Tate Liverpool for the world-class art, or you can enjoy free time to explore the city centre at your own pace. Either way, the Limitless Team will be by your side to provide support and assistance whenever you need it.

Day 3 Chester Cathedral Guided Tour
Chester Cathedral
Chester Cathedral

Just an hour south of Liverpool city centre, Chester is a beautiful cathedral city with bundles of Roman history and some of the best-preserved medieval architecture in the UK.

Today, we’ll board our accessible transport and head to Chester for a fantastic introductory coach tour. Having learned about its history, we’ll alight at the soaring Chester Cathedral for a guided visit. More than 1,000 years old, the cathedral is famed for its rich, red sandstone, strong connections to monastic orders, and remarkable collection of artwork. With the support of the Limitless Team, you’ll enjoy a full immersion in the building’s wonderful history.

In the afternoon, you’ll have plenty of free time to explore Chester at your own pace. The excellent Chester Market offers ground-floor access to a wide range of street food vendors, and you can explore the city’s Roman history at the Grosvenor Museum, where ground-floor exhibits are also wheelchair accessible. Alternatively, why not grab a cup of tea in a cosy cafe?

The Limitless Team will be available to support you throughout your time in Chester and to help plan your afternoon.

Day 4 Liverpool Icons Coach Tour & Mersey Ferry
The Beatles Statue, Liverpool
The Beatles Statue

On your final full day in Liverpool, we’ll explore the city’s musical culture then take to the water for the best possible view of its incredible skyline.

Following breakfast at the hotel, we’ll board our accessible transport for a one-hour guided tour of local landmarks associated with the city’s most iconic musical export – The Beatles. Taking in the Cavern Club, Strawberry Field Gate and Penny Lane, the tour illustrates just how much Liverpool influenced the Fab Four and their music.

At the end of the coach tour, we’ll board the Mersey ferry – immortalised in the famous Gerry & the Pacemakers tune – and head out to experience the city from the water. Liverpool’s breathtaking architecture is a result of its role as one of the British Empire’s most important ports, and there’s no better way to get a feel for the city’s history than on this one-hour accessible river cruise.

Following your cruise, you’ll have the afternoon to explore Liverpool at your own pace. If you want help planning your day, don’t hesitate to chat with your Tour Manager. In the evening, we’ll all get together in the hotel for our final dinner and to share holiday memories.
