Day 2 - The Golden Circle

< >

One of Iceland’s most popular attractions, the Golden Circle is a 190-mile loop that explores the countryside surrounding Reykjavik. In the morning, your private guide will pick you up from your hotel and we’ll make our way to Þingvellir National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the park is the perfect introduction to the drama, scale and beauty of the Icelandic landscape. All paths within the park are wheelchair accessible, ensuring every guest can enjoy the visit. Later, we’ll head further south to visit one of Iceland’s biggest geysers, Strokkur. Capable of shooting water up to 40 metres into the air, the geyser typically erupts every 4-8 minutes, so you’ll have the opportunity to catch this awe-inspiring eruption more than once. Our last stop in the Golden Circle is Gullfoss - the Golden Falls. One of the country’s most iconic natural landmarks and a spectacular sight, the waterfall gets its name from the way the glacial sediment takes on a golden shine when it catches the light in sunnier weather. On the way back to the hotel, we’ll stop off at Kerið, a 3000-year-old volcano crater that’s now filled with water. Its vivid red slopes and striking aquamarine waters make it the perfect end to a wonderful day of accessible touring.

Day 3 - Exploring Reykjavik & Visit Perlan

< >

The northernmost capital in the world, Reykjavik is a small and vibrant city that packs in more history, culture and great food than you could believe. Today, we’ll be taking the time to explore the streets, cafes, museums and landmarks of this fascinating city. We will visit the Town Hall by the lake, and then head over to Perlan. Perlan is an interactive experience taking you through the history of Iceland, and its unique climate. There is an interactive planetarium experience to enjoy, showing the birth of the northern lights. We will have an evening meal in the observatory at the museum.

Day 4 - The Blue Lagoon

< >

Perhaps Iceland’s most iconic attraction and one of the natural wonders of the world, the Blue Lagoon is on most visitors’ “To Do” list. Heated to a perfect 38°C and featuring a 70/30 blend of seawater and freshwater, the lagoon is the ideal place to relax and unwind on your penultimate day. The lagoon is a fully accessible travel experience, with special changing rooms, a pool access lift and special wheelchairs for the lagoon itself. The deepest part of Blue Lagoon is around 1.60m/5.2ft but most areas are far shallower, so you never feel out of your depth. Over the course of the day, you’ll have plenty of time to relax, experience the rejuvenating powers of the Blue Lagoon\'s legendary waters and explore the breathtaking beauty of the moss-covered landscape. In the late afternoon, your guide will drive you back to the capital, where you can tuck into local delicacies at one of the city’s fabulous restaurants.

FAQ's

Can I customise the accessible tour itinerary or opt out of certain activities if I'm not interested?

Our itinerary is designed to offer the very best accessible travel experience, however if there are elements that you would like to opt-out from then we’ll do our best to amend your itinerary. Please be aware, there may be limitations on when care can be provided if you’re leaving the group at any stage, therefore we recommend speaking to our team in plenty of time before you depart.

Do I need any special equipment or gear for the tour?

The wheelchair accessible tour of the Northern Lights requires no specialist equipment. We do however advise travellers to pack warm, waterproof clothing and footwear. Sunglasses are also recommended and of course, don’t forget to bring a camera to remember your trip long after you’ve returned home.

When can you see the Northern Lights in Iceland?

The best time to see the Northern Lights in Iceland is between September and April when the weather is cooler and long, dark nights make spotting the lights easier. The Northern Lights have been spotted as early as August though!

Where to see the Northern Lights in Iceland?

You can spot the Northern Lights from any location in Iceland, even in the capital city Reykjavik. Artificial lights make spotting the Northern Lights harder however and the more remote areas of the country, such as Vik and Westfjords offer some of the best chances to spot them.

What is the weather like in Iceland?

The weather in Iceland varies throughout the year. Our accessible tours of Iceland usually run in Winter, providing the best opportunity to catch sight of the Northern Lights. At this time of the year the weather is cold, so we recommend plenty of layers for your comfort. October is also a typically wet month in Iceland, so don’t forget your waterproofs.
