Blue Badge Company - Permit Holder Review
By Jo Southall -The Blue Badge Co is a Bristol based company that hand make parking permit wallets amongst other accessories. You may remember reading about them on our blog earlier this month. Well, courtesy of the Blue Badge Co, I’ve got my hands on one of their wallets to review for Limitless Travel.
First, I had a quick look on the website. They have loads of different designs! Everything from plain coloured leather to tartan, animal print to polka dot and butterfly prints. The wallets also come in a range of materials so if you struggle with certain textures or fabrics there are plenty of options.
After much deliberation I chose the bottany design and I’m not disappointed with how beautiful it is in real life.
The wallet is a lovely coarse cotton material, fully lined and much easier to use than my old plain leather wallet. This design is also much softer and more flexible than my old wallet so it was really easy to put my permit in and to set the timer too.
Once the permit and timer are fitted it's remarkably slim line. My old leather one now seems unnecessarily chunky by comparison - I have no idea why my old laminated parking permit required padding anyway, it just takes up space! The fact that the wallet comes complete with a timer is ideal as I have a habit of breaking off the little tabs that turn the timer wheel… it’s always good to have a spare!
One key difference between my old wallet and this one became almost immediately apparent. Cotton stays cool. Hot day, baking car, dark coloured leather permit holder… I scorched my fingers a few times trying to take the permit off the dash board. Pastel coloured cotton? No problem!
Plus, there is one feature with the packaging I must say I was impressed with. The wallet arrives in a little cardboard sheath which you remove by twisting little tabs so there’s no need to cut or rip the packaging at all. I’m a massive fan of this for two reasons. Firstly, it’s much easier to operate for people with wonky hands like mine or for people with poor dexterity. Secondly, it allows you to take the wallet out and look at it without damaging the packaging. Great for returns or if you’re giving this to someone as a gift.
A few of these details may seem a tad trivial but often living with a mobility impairment is pretty challenging. There can be a lot of doom and gloom with disability. I try to find beauty and colour in the little things wherever I go and so this permit holder certainly fits the bill.
I’ve only been using my Blue Badge wallet for a few days but so far it’s held up perfectly fine. Only time will tell as to just how well it lasts but I know my friends have used these for years and have had no complaints.
