Update from Kate: Escalating Problems
By Kate Bosley -Well I thought it may be interesting to let you know how it went. I arrived and returned in one piece but it wasn't easy!
Firstly Network Rail didn't turn up to assist. So having said they are brilliant, they weren't that day - nobody to assist! I am determined and struggled across London by myself. I asked for assistance at Victoria and was shown stairs that were actually stationary escalators. I am not sure whether Phoenix is allowed on them but in desperation we tried. She hated them. So on the way back we asked the assistance personnel if we could avoid them. We did but we had to use the Circle line which goes the whole way round to get across London. The trip across using the Victoria line involves escalators which took much longer.
Otherwise it's good having a guide dog. I feel famous though. Everywhere I go people talk to me about her. I am never alone. In London, young men stopped to chat and were generally pleased to meet her and hear what she does.
Using the white stick, I have found that the population is generally helpful towards me. It is rare to experience unkind behaviour. This may not be everyone's opinion but it's what I have noticed.
So Phoenix and I are getting to know each other and it's going well.
