Muscular Dystrophy UK - Driving changeBy Niamh Duffy -
Working together, we drive change to beat muscle-wasting conditions
Muscular Dystrophy UK fights for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions to have choices, to be understood and never alone.
Muscular dystrophy is a serious, degenerative muscle-wasting condition. It can be devastating, having an impact on every area of life, cutting too many lives short. There are currently no cures or quick fixes. But we’re determined to drive change to beat it.
Vivek and Manjula Gohil, who live in Leicester, talk about how the charity supports them to enjoy the best possible quality of life. Vivek, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, campaigns with Trailblazers (the charity’s network of young disabled people) for equal access to work, education and leisure opportunities. He is also a peer support volunteer, offering support and advice to others living with muscle-wasting conditions, while his mum, Manjula, supports other parents.
Lives are changing from the day of diagnosis, there’s no time to waste. We’re committed to:
- accelerating the search for effective treatments and cures
- driving change for access to specialist care and support
- empowering individuals and improving quality of life by giving a voice and connecting people.
