Travel Inspiration - Cory LeeBy Niamh Duffy -
Curb Free with Cory Lee [http://www.curbfreewithcorylee.com/]is a wheelchair travel blog run by, you guessed it, the wonderful Cory: “I'm a 26 year old travel addict that also uses a wheelchair. On my blog, I share my experiences and hope to inspire others to see the world.”
Cory, born and raised in Georgia, USA was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy when he was just two years old which left him in a wheelchair. But this hasn’t stopped his love of travelling and exploring the world.
Over the years Cory has explored many destinations around the world and started his travel blog online.
A travel blog devoted to sharing the world from a wheelchair user's perspective, Curb Free is regularly updated with a wide range of topics and subjects on all things travel.
From Australia to the Caribbean, Europe to Canada and beyond, we love Cory’s honest and inspiring writing about his travels and the accessibility of the destinations he visits.
We got the chance to ask Cory some questions:
Where have you been that genuinely took your breath away?
So many places, but most recently Israel took my breath away. I went hot air ballooning over the Negev Desert at sunrise and it was stunning. And yes, it was even accessible!
Where have you been where you felt most at home, away from home?
After visiting Australia, I can definitely see myself living there. It was tremendously accessible, had great weather, and was just beautiful. It was so accommodating that it really felt like home.
What’s been the most interesting/surprising thing that’s happened as an outcome of running your website?
When I first started my website, I wasn't sure if people would even care about what I had to say. So it was a bit surprising (in a great way) when people began to read and care about what I wrote. Because of their loyal support, I've been able to travel a lot more than I used to by working with and promoting destinations for their accessibility.
What advice would you have given yourself five years ago? Where do you hope to be in five years time?
If I could go back in time 5 years, I would tell myself to go ahead and start Curb Free with Cory Lee. I didn't click publish on the site until December of 2013, so having that extra time to build up the site would be valuable. Five years from now, I hope to be doing exactly what I'm doing now, but with a larger audience and traveling even more. I also wouldn't be opposed to getting my own TV show about traveling as a wheelchair user.
Would you rather go into space or explore the depths of the ocean?
Definitely space! As a traveller, globes fascinate me, so being able to actually see Earth in all its glory would be a dream come true.
Be sure to keep up to date with Cory on his blog!
