Bruges, the town that turns into a Christmas WonderlandBy Niamh Duffy -
From late November Bruges transforms into a Christmas market wonderland, so it is no wonder that it is one of our favourite stops on our Belgium Christmas Markets tour. Bruges packs a seriously festive punch for such a small Belgian town – with the food, drinks, decorations and fairy tale setting all adding to the charm and leaving you full of Christmas cheer!
Bruges’ main square is the focal point of the Christmas Market and is full to the brim with food, drink and craft stalls all located under the beautiful backdrop of the Belfry of Bruges. The streets leading away from the Market square are lined with countless Christmas shops selling everything from decorations to the famous Belgium chocolate. Hours could be spent exploring, eating lots of chocolate and generally getting lost in everything Christmas!
From the Belgian staples of frites to the sweet taste of waffles – all washed down of course with some mulled wine – the range of delicious food and snacks on offer is endless. If you’re looking for unique Christmas presents Bruges is one of the best places to visit – the limitless selection of Christmas decorations, antique trinkets and beautiful handmade gifts are a true treat. One of the best things about Bruges is getting lost in the maze of narrow streets that weave around the old town and the canals. Every corner is a scene from a fairy tale, from the lights of the Market Square to a romantic stroll around Love Lake in Minnewater Park.
Bruges is the perfect accessible Christmas setting – with the entire town transforming into a festive wonderland. Christmas trees adorn every window, decorations fill every shop and fairy lights line every street. Wandering the idyllic streets, making stops for mulled wine or some hot chocolate, strolling along the canals and visiting one of the many cosy bars is the perfect ending to your trip to Bruges.
With Limitless accessibility needn’t cross your mind because we’ve got that covered, as disabled members of our team have explored Bruges for themselves and found the perfect places for you to enjoy. Therefore, the biggest decision you’ll have to make is whether to have another chocolate or pint of beer!
