Congratulations Blue Badge Company!By Emma Wilson -
The Blue Badge Company designs special wallets to jazz up those boring blue badges that disabled people carry around to allow them to park in disabled spaces.
In 2011, Ellen Green was made redundant from her previous job and came up with the idea of designing these special wallets, after her housemate received a Blue Badge parking permit and wanted something to that was practical and also stylish to carry it.
She managed to gain a buyer from Boots after attending a trade fair, whose parent was a disabled parking permit holder. By this time, her designs had become more varied. Designs included floral prints, animals and classic patterns. After a successful trial, the first order from Boots came to 10,000 units.
Since then, the Blue Badge Company has grown. Despite missing out on an investment from Dragon’s Den in 2015, due to the offers being five times more than what she originally offered, the business has now expanded to include pill boxes, walking stick accessories and memory boards, and reported a turnover of £500,000 last year.
Here’s hoping they continue the fantastic success!
