Limitless' Top Christmas Markets 2016By Niamh Duffy -
There is nothing like a traditional Christmas market to get you into the true festive spirit. Shake the dust off your Christmas jumpers, wrap up warm and get your vocal chords ready… Christmas is just around the corner! Here are our top Christmas Markets 2016!
1) Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market
Whether it is the fact that it is just around the corner from the office or whether it exuberates the true festive spirit, this market was a definite on my list. Based along the whole stretch of New Street, Birmingham, and ending in the magnificent Victoria Square it couldn’t have a better location, right in the heart of the city. This is largest German Christmas market outside of Germany and Austria so it is no wonder that this truly does bring the city to life. In terms of accessibility Birmingham city centre is accessible for all, with the stretch being flat and paved, however it can get extremely busy so be prepared for the crowds. It offers everything you would want – Christmas gifts, German beer, Frankfurt sausages and of course a mug of mulled wine.
2) Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park
This offers something for everyone. Traditional, quirky, for adults and kids – it is perfect for all the family. With rides, entertainment, traditional Christmas market and a circus the options are endless. Based in London’s Hyde Park you’re truly spoilt for choice of things to do, the daredevils in us can get your hearts pumping or you can simply enjoy sipping on a glass of mulled wine whilst watching jaw-dropping acrobatics in the circus. They have gone all out to make it accessible to all this year, with wheelchairs welcome on the ice rink, in the Circus, at the Winter Palace Theatre, on the Giant Wheel and in ice attractions. Even offering 2 for 1 Personal Assistant tickets it could be counted as one of the most accessible winter attractions. A must-visit!
3) Cologne, Germany
The true magic of Christmas can be felt throughout this break-taking city. The aroma of baked apples, cinnamon biscuits and mulled wine fill the alleys. With the larger markets held in downtown Cologne surrounding the huge Christmas tree it provides the perfect locations for the diverse programme of live music. Cologne’s Christmas markets attract people from across the work every year so they can savour the unique atmosphere. Somewhere not to miss. There has been a huge push recently to make Cologne barrier free to all, with hotels, museums, public transport and toilets being their main focus.
